Shure and Tectonic Audio Labs are redefining conference room audio in new collaboration

Tectonic, an audio technology firm and TechNexus Venture Collaborative portfolio company, is making waves with its recent collaboration with audio industry giant Shure. This partnership, highlighted by the launch of the Shure Microflex® Loudspeaker, marks a milestone in Tectonic’s growth story and showcases the transformative potential of its Balance Mode Radiator (BMR) technology.

Shure, a TechNexus corporate partner, has long been a leader in professional audio, known for its high-quality microphones. As Shure sought to diversify and strengthen its product portfolio, venturing into installed speakers became a core strategic priority to enhance the in-room audio experience. This is where partnering with technology ventures, like Tectonic’s innovative approach to physical acoustics aligned perfectly with Shure’s ambitions.

"Tectonic’s BMR technology enables ceiling speakers for professional applications to deliver superior speech intelligibility, even sound coverage, and the ability to replace multiple traditional speakers with just one unit," said Tectonic CEO Fuat Koro.

TechNexus’s approach to corporate venture capital bridges the gap between corporate strategy and startup innovation, facilitating partnerships like the one between Tectonic and Shure to accelerate industry transformation. This collaborative approach led to a fruitful commercial relationship, with Tectonic collaborating with Shure’s engineering team of experts over the past several years.

"Shure will turn 100 years old as an organization in April 2025. One of the keys to the longevity and vitality of the company is to always be on the lookout for new and better ways to provide value to our customers,” said Brian Woodland, Shure’s vice president of corporate development. “The Tectonic BMR technology is a great example of innovation for installed loudspeakers as it provides a number of benefits for the meeting room space: enhanced speech intelligibility, wide audio dispersion for complete room coverage for consistent sound quality for every listener, and a more compact form factor. We're excited to see the combination of the Tectonic technology and Shure engineering bring these new solutions to market."

Tectonic’s journey has been marked by a commitment to pushing the boundaries of audio technology. The past two years have been particularly transformative, as the company has doubled its product portfolio and expanded into new markets, including professional installed audio applications. Notable milestones include partnerships beyond Shure, such as Restaurant Brands integrating Tectonic’s technology and showcasing products at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) conference.

Selling to major OEMs, Tectonic supplies its cutting-edge technology to global brands that value premium audio. This approach allows Tectonic to focus on what it does best: developing innovative hardware solutions that meet evolving industry needs.

Koro, who previously held a leadership role at Bose, was drawn to Tectonic by its groundbreaking approach to physical acoustics.

"While the fundamentals of acoustics have remained largely unchanged for nearly a century, Tectonic has introduced a radical innovation that not only improves performance but is also cost-effective and manufacturable at scale," he said.

Looking ahead, Koro sees continued opportunities for growth, particularly as the audio landscape evolves with advancements in AI and machine learning. However, he emphasized that superior hardware remains the cornerstone of exceptional audio experiences.

Tectonic isn’t just addressing a market need—it’s pushing the boundaries of audio technology. Through its innovation and strategic partnerships, like its collaboration with Shure, this new Microflex® product launch exemplifies how TechNexus connects high-growth technology ventures with corporate leaders to transform cutting-edge ideas into scalable business impact, shaping the future of sound.
