SUSE, a leader in secure business software powering the majority of the Fortune 500, acquired Losant, a TechNexus Venture Collaborative portfolio company. Losant’s low-code Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform provides the 'brain' to SUSE’s foundational infrastructure, giving customers easily deployable systems that predict and act on real-world data, rather than just monitoring it on a screen.
This acquisition rounds out SUSE’s Edge solutions, a category of technology focused on processing data as close as possible to where it is generated. Losant’s team will belong in the SUSE Edge portfolio and business unit.
Collaborating with Losant, which specializes in putting smart code on the smallest possible chips, extends SUSE’s reach to the Tiny Edge: directly into the microchips and sensors embedded within the equipment itself. The result is a full-stack platform that bridges the gap between the factory floor and the front office, allowing an enterprise to manage thousands of devices and obtain real-time insights with one cohesive system.
SUSE’s move comes in the midst of a 'device refresh cycle' in 2026, where traditional IoT sensors are being replaced by AI-powered endpoints that can think for themselves, according to 451 Research. With IIoT and AI capabilities working together at the edge, customers can go from watching a machine on a screen to having machines sense a problem on its own and automatically adjust settings before it fails.
“With Losant, we will move faster from infrastructure to operational outcomes combining our Edge portfolio and products like SUSE AI, allowing deeper collaboration with industrial partners, equipment manufacturers and industrial open source communities as the ecosystem continues to evolve,” Keith Basil, General Manager of SUSE Edge, said in a news release.
SUSE plans to open source the Losant technology, which would allow customers to mix and match hardware brands knowing the software will still work seamlessly together.
As one of Losant’s investors since 2017, TechNexus has supported the company’s growth from a specialized startup to an enterprise leader. For TechNexus, the acquisition is a clear example of the value in finding deep-tech innovators who solve complex industrial problems and helping them reach a global scale.
“Joining forces with SUSE is the natural next step for Losant.” Charlie Key, CEO of Losant, said in a news release. “We are excited to bring our Tiny Edge capabilities to a much larger stage.”
